Evangelism, outreach & football

Prior to the recent extension of restrictions in Nigeria, we heard from Trust recipient, Rev. Nelson. The Reverend brought news of his church convention and outreach which ‘kicked off’ with an eagerly contested football match.

"Seasonal greetings from Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. I consider it a great to share with you some of the activities and events we are doing during this Christmas season. Our church, Gospel Express Evangelical Church Inc located at Utu Ikot Ekpo village in Etim Ekpo LGA just concluded its 2020 annual convention with the theme ABLE GOD. 

The convention opened with a friendly football game between Gospel Express Football Club, wearing white jerseys and Atai Nto Obo Football Club wearing yellow. We planned and organised this game to use the opportunity to tell the youth about Jesus Christ and to distribute tracts and literature and Bibles. We did distributed more than 300 resources;150 Bibles both English language and vernacular or native language Bibles. In total 35 young people came to faith in Christ through this exercise. 

The competition was successful from the starting point to the end. As you know in every game there must be a winner as well as loser. Thus, Atai Nto Obo football club scored four goals while Gospel Express Football club scored zero. 

The field was celebrating after the close of the match especially from the winner's team. We equally had community leaders or village heads in attendance who also witnessed the match. 

There were several other activities and event such as leadership training for church leaders and pastors, medical outreach mission, water baptism to new converts and communion service on Sunday morning. Everything went very well.
